Its one of those things you either have or you dont, and I most definately do. I love books, both for their meaning and the physicality (you know that smell? the musty, secretive, warm smell) and I love quiet, big warm spaces, so libraries are kindof my Mecca. Whilst my love for the Sydney Jones is temperamental, I feel like it would be impossible not to read in one of these babies...<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Today is one of those days where it would be much easier to write a list of things I am not loving right now. The temptation to hit you with a long list of depressing things is almost overwhelming, but the reason we started doing this in the first place was to keep our chins up right? Thus, we plow on. PANCAKE DAY! No, I am actually talking about Valentines Day, of course. Now, personally, I've never been a fan - pink hearts and sickly cuddly toys are not my idea of expressing love, and the whole thing does just seem a bit naff - and most people I speak to agree with me. Why then, is there still that little part of us that dreads this day? <br />
<br />
Stab in the dark here - but I think its because, no matter how confident you are, how happy with your life - theres still a part of a lot of people who want that to be validated by someone else. We're told we ought to by that mean old, ever recurring media dragon. And maybe there's nothing wrong with that - we are, after all, biological creatures of mating. But good God, what if that person - someone who makes you feel great about yourself just hasnt come along yet? Does that mean you just have to glum along until they rock up?<br />
<br />
No! The age old adage of loving yourself really and truly is key here I think. It might sound a little contrived at first, because its something we've heard so many times before, but just stop and think about it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i29.tinypic.com/52hqbt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" src="http://i29.tinypic.com/52hqbt.jpg" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i29.tinypic.com/52hqbt.jpg">Source</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You are the most important person in your life. And no, that doesnt make you a bad person, nor selfish. How do you expect to look after others, make others happy if you're in no fit state yourself? You can't silly billy, you'll run out of juice. You are the one who is always going to be there for yourself - the one who remembers the first heartbreak, all your favourite fims, which toothpaste you like. And I genuinely believe that if you dont show yourself love, you can't expect anyone else to do so. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Thus, my proposition is as follows - </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This Valentines Day, take yourself on a date. Buy yourself some flowers, run yourself a big hot bath and pour a glass of wine. Put on Peep Show and have a beer - whatever you'd like someone else to do for you, whatever you consider to be romantic. Romance yourself! Its not lame, you are glorious! The very fact that you're alive, that you are a living and breathing and thinking and feeling being is <em>amazing</em>! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><em>Ideas for how to Adore You!</em></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1 - Write yourself a love letter. Write all the things you love about yourself, all the reasons you respect you, admire you. And if you dont feel it, bluff! Post it to yourself, second class, and feel good when it arrives and you read it back.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2 - Treat yourself to some sexy lingerie. Literally - nothing will make you feel sexier. I'm talking stockings, heels, lace, the full sheabang ladies.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3 - (For the brave!) Go for a meal - on your own. Book a table, and do not take your computer. A book is fine, but this is not work time. Order yourself something you'll really enjoy, and pay attention to what you're thinking - its rude not to listen to other people, and its rude not to listen to yourself.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4 - Look at yourself in the mirror - really look. Compliment yourself. Believe it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5 - Masturbate. End of.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6 - Look after yourself - you wouldn't feed a child crap, you wouldnt want your loved one to come home drunk off their face every night. You only get one body, and it is incredible; you need it to carry you through life, so look after it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">7 - Snuggle up in bed, and laze. Wheth ever that means watching tv, reading or just daydreaming, don't ever feel guilty for taking time out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">8 - Make yourself do that thing you've been putting off. Encourage yourself - salsa lessons? Pottery? Going to a museum? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">9 - Write BEAUTIFUL on your mirror in red lipstick. Feels like a film, feels great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">10 - Spend money on yourself. My mum has a practice where the first thing she does when she gets paid is to buy something for herself - something small, a lipstick or book. She says it makes her feel like she's getting something for herself out of how hard she works, and its so easy for the rest of it to run away with bills and food shopping and us lovely offspring! My mum is off the chain.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">How will you start adoring yourself my adorable and wonderful wonderfuls?!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Are you for reeeals?! Where the hell did January go. Ah well, time to crack on with this weeks sack o' lovin. <br />
<br />
Due mainly to the completion of exams, this week has been both <strong>awesome</strong> and <strong>busy</strong>. There were many many birthdays this week, one of which took us to <a href="http://www.alma-de-cuba.com/homepage/">Alma De Cuba</a>, officially my new favourite club. Until 1978, it was Liverpool's oldest Catholic church, and after that it became a super fancy restraunt and club. I mean, <em>look</em> at these pictures!<br />

Its basically a big old bag of blog to blog (try saying that after a pinot) love - which is so refreshing in a world so competitive! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TUa0M1-rBFI/AAAAAAAAAeU/onYVvjYsQFg/s1600/versatilebloggeraward.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TUa0M1-rBFI/AAAAAAAAAeU/onYVvjYsQFg/s1600/versatilebloggeraward.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I'm not entirely sure why its 'versatile' - maybe because it can go to any type of blog? Or is it named after someone? I dont know, but hey! The idea is that I now tell you seven lesser known facts about myself, and then pass on the award to seven blogs I think are great. Isn't it great to share the love? So here we go...<br />
<br />
1 - I have hyperextended, hyperflexible joints. That means I am very bendy, but my knees get sore a lot!<br />
2 - My favourite cities are Edinburgh, Venice and Vienna, and I cannot possibly choose between them.<br />
3 - I'm on my University Cheerleading squad and stunt team, where I'm a backspot.<br />
4 - <a href="http://rioalexandra.blogspot.com/2010/10/satchel-i-love-you.html">The most expensive bag I ever bought</a> was from the Cambridge Satchel Company - and it was so worth it.<br />
5 - I sometimes work as an extra on Hollyoakes - if you watch, look out for me!<br />
6 - My dream was to be a ballet dancer, but I'm too tall, my knees are too bad and I started too late.<br />
7 - My original blog inspiration was <a href="http://www.galadarling.com/">Gala Darling</a>, and I still love her.<br />
<br />
Its harder than it seems to think of things to say about yourself! So, here are the blogs I'd like to pass the award onto, and I think you should check them out!<br />
<br />
1 - <a href="http://be-my-breath.blogspot.com/">Be My Breath</a> - because the girl who writes this is one of the best people I know, and because her blog has lots of lovely inspiring and pretty snippets of life!<br />
<br />
2 - <a href="http://colormekatie.blogspot.com/">Color Me Katie</a> - because her art work and photos are beyond cute.<br />
<br />
3 - <a href="http://www.manrepeller.com/">The Man Repeller</a> - because she's awesome, and her blog is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time!<br />
<br />
4 - <a href="http://millieepona.wordpress.com/">Today I learnt to Whistle</a> - because her writing always provokes my thoughts, and she takes pictures what are nice.<br />
<br />
5 - <a href="http://wakingupinwaco.blogspot.com/">Waking up in Waco</a> - because she provides funny anecdotes and advice on student life across the pond, and I love to compare!<br />
<br />
6 - <a href="http://www.nastycute.com/">Nasty Cute</a> - because if you havent already seen this, you need to. Its FUNNY.<br />
<br />
7 - <a href="http://dailypeptalkfromabestfriend.com/">Daily Pep Talk From A Best Friend</a> - because some days, this is <em>exactly</em> what I need.<br />
<br />
Go, go look now! You'll have yourself a time.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4352767762080685968-2747351999384185787?l=rioalexandra.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Riohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04459779051231501207noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4352767762080685968.post-69665419268054298502011-01-30T21:30:00.000Z2011-01-30T21:30:57.303Z2011-01-30T21:30:57.303ZA little bit adorable.Today, I went out for lunch in China town with my Ovary Towers (next years house - SO excited!!) ladies, and Fei, our friend who is from near Bejing. She is absolutely the loveliest person, and she took us all round and taughts us some of the language and whatnot, we had chai, it was lovely. Partly because of that, and partly because its not a million miles away from Valentines Day, and partly because its just adorable, I thought I'd share this with you...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-main.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-main.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://weburbanist.com/2011/01/12/locks-of-love-urban-padlock-monuments-to-commitment/">Images Source</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Love locking is a tradition thought to origionate in China, but apparently its pretty big throughout Asia and Europe. The details vary, but the basic concept is the same. Couples write their names on padlocks, and then fasten them in public places and throw away the keys as a symbol of their unbreakable love (pause for awws).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-1.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Love locks can be found on fences, lamp posts, fountains, benches, and just about anything else you can think of. Pécs in Hungary have had to introduce special 'love walls' to stop the streets becoming unuseable!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-8.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-4.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Mostly, the couples toss the keys into bodies of water, but some areas provide special bins! In some countries, love locks are placed by newlyweds on the day of their marriage, to keep their love secure. In other areas, the padlocks are set in place by couples in love but not yet married to bring luck to their relationship (Fu. Thats good luck in Chinese, I learned this today). The fountain below is in Montevideo in Uraguay, where there's a plaque encouraging couples to place a lock. It promises that if they then return to the fountain, their love will last a lifetime.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-fountain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-fountain.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-7.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://img.weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/love-locks-5.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Probably very annoying for local councils, but undeniably cute. I wonder if you could do them for friends and family aswell as lovers? Pets? Ice cream?! Ice cream is my soulmate.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What I wouldn't give to be a bear in a tree. When I was about eight, I was convinced that one day walking home from school, I saw a bear in my village. You know, just chillin around the culdesacs. I was assured this was not possible, and concluded that I must have seen the ghost of said bear (utterly rational), and for years, believed I had a special connection with the spirits of bears. I think I tried to summon the spirits a couple of times through horrible rituals involving chanting and teddy bears. <br />
This year I'm getting involved in A <a href="http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/">Beautiful Mess'</a> <a href="http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/project-restyle/">Project Restyle</a>, so all the credit for inspiration here must go to her. <br />
<br />
Project Restyle is a just-for-fun creative group focused on ReStyling damaged, unwanted or unusable goods into fresh, beautiful pieces. The ide is to create weekly projects to give life to used items. <br />
<br />
<strong>Project ReStyle Guidelines</strong><br />
1. You must use unwanted, damaged or unusable vintage or used items to ReStyle. One of the big purposes of the group is that it encourages green living and is budget friendly. You can use items from your own closet/attic that you no longer love, thrifted finds or hand-me-downs.<br />
2. Take a Before & After photo of your ReStyled project. It's that simple!<br />
3. Share your creative work on your blogs and in our <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1567172@N20/" target="_blank">Flickr Group</a>. If you don't have a Flickr account, it's free to join. We'll be choosing favorites each week to share on our blogs, so you'll want to be sure to join the fun.<br />
4. You can create fashion, home decor or gift items. There are no limits on what types of items you can ReStyle! Be creative and make items you know you can really use!<br />

<br />
Ok, so for my first project, I decided to go really foolproof and emulate the tshirt to necklace idea...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TScXqM6utNI/AAAAAAAAAbw/LVAntFFVwOs/s1600/DSC00229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" n4="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TScXqM6utNI/AAAAAAAAAbw/LVAntFFVwOs/s320/DSC00229.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TScWPzBZU4I/AAAAAAAAAbo/SO2usvAIVfo/s1600/DSC00222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" n4="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TScWPzBZU4I/AAAAAAAAAbo/SO2usvAIVfo/s320/DSC00222.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><em><span style="font-size: large;">Before...</span></em> <span style="font-size: large;"><em>...After.</em></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Inspiration: If Urban Outfitters can do it, so can I!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hhaDIALFJdM/SkWUldCeRqI/AAAAAAAACFg/9pPCRQBB8P4/s320/urban+outfitters+cloth+necklace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hhaDIALFJdM/SkWUldCeRqI/AAAAAAAACFg/9pPCRQBB8P4/s320/urban+outfitters+cloth+necklace.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But it was utterly fool proof and quick, and you could do a lot in terms of adapting/working up the idea. Think using different colours of cloth, beads, corsages, bracelets etc.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step One:</strong> Take an old top, no matter if its got snags or stains. Cut off the hem and sleeves if there are any, you dont need them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4dMYtV2mI/AAAAAAAAAeE/tvLq98nql6U/s1600/DSC00223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4dMYtV2mI/AAAAAAAAAeE/tvLq98nql6U/s400/DSC00223.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step Two:</strong> Keep cutting strips across, so you have loops of material. The width is up to you, whether you want thick, thin, regular or varied. I went for regular-ish strips about a centimetre wide.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4dvjsyLFI/AAAAAAAAAeI/gK-HFoBHygY/s1600/DSC00224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4dvjsyLFI/AAAAAAAAAeI/gK-HFoBHygY/s320/DSC00224.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<strong>Step three: </strong>Arrange all your loops so they hang nicely, keeping aside two or three. If they should break at the hem, just tie them back together, no worries. Put all the knots at the top to keep it neatish, unless a scraggy look is what you're going for.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4eKAlO90I/AAAAAAAAAeM/2I_aeaXr1AI/s1600/DSC00225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4eKAlO90I/AAAAAAAAAeM/2I_aeaXr1AI/s400/DSC00225.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step 4: </strong>Taking the loops you kept aside, cut them so they're strips. Then wrap them around the top of the necklace, keeping all the other loops as arranged and hiding the knots.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4e11W-z4I/AAAAAAAAAeQ/aTaORXSFOvw/s1600/DSC00227.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" s5="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tmQ8bdn_E90/TT4e11W-z4I/AAAAAAAAAeQ/aTaORXSFOvw/s400/DSC00227.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Simples. This one was just a prototype really, I think I might redo it with better quality material, maybe in a different colour. I think it worked out pretty well for something so ridiculously easy though!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Now Millie is one of the most active and passionate people I know, and for her to be down really made me think about how frustrating life can be sometimes, how sometimes it feels like you're just banging your head against a brick wall, or that the whole world is against you. I promise you that the littlest things you can do to make the world a better place <em>are</em> making a difference, the world is constantly changing and reshaping, and its actions both small and large that make that change for the better. And no, its not always easy. Here are some women who made a huge difference, that history somehow forgot... absolutely inspiring, beautiful, pioneering, amazing.<br />

She escaped after one of her guards was bribed, and was later nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: large;">Rosalind Franklin</span></em> is arguably the most important woman in science ever, yet most of us have never heard her name. She was a key player in the team that unravelled DNA, the team that won a Nobel Peace Prize for it in 1962 - but Rosalind had died in 1958, aged just 37, after battling ovarian cancer. The NPP is never awardes posthumously, so Rosalind went entirely unacknowledged until 1968, when her colleagues publicly recognised her hard work.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Tragically, due to her time, very little is known about her, but her novel survives as a literary masterpiece.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

What made you happy this week? Chin up loves, its a beautiful world really!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4352767762080685968-5166179446898529174?l=rioalexandra.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Riohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04459779051231501207noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4352767762080685968.post-30979288839171147032011-01-19T20:47:00.001Z2011-01-19T20:50:18.116Z2011-01-19T20:50:18.116ZKate's potential dresses? Gucci and Chanel?? CUCUMBER SANDWICHES??!So incase I didn't already mention, I'm pretty excited about Kate and Wills getting married. I am pro Royal family - I think they're a wonderful part of our heritage and tradition, and we're lucky to have something like that that so many countries don't. Contrary to popular belief, they cost the tax payer hardly anything, and well... its just nice to have Kings and Princesses, isn't it? I'm having a good year for weddings in general, I have my sister in May, my friend Fran in September, oh and Kate and Wills in April...<br />
<br />
Me and <a href="http://www.be-my-breath.blogspot.com/">Ruth</a> are going to have a party with cups of tea in real china tea cups, and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off and possibly (definately) large hats. At least, shes having a party, and I will wear a large hat. But, of course, the main excitement is the dress. In the December issue of <a href="http://www.wwd.com/">WWD</a>, some top couture wedding designers and fashion houses were asked to brainstorm some ideas for The dress (capital T). I know, contain yourselves!!! The only Brit to sumbit a design was Elizabeth Emanuel (she designed Diana's dress, you remember? <em>Those</em> sleeves?). Stay with me, I know there are a lot (29 to be exact), bhut its totally worth the scrolling, cos some of the best are at the end. My personal favourites include Doo.Ri, Gucci, J. Crew, Lela Rose, Prabal Gurung and Valentino. Here we go, in alphabetical order... All images and quotes are via <a href="http://www.ifitshipitshere.blogspot.com/">here</a>.<br />
